Microsoft has released the updated (v6.1.7000.277) System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 Cross Platform Management Packs that enable discovering, monitoring, and managing UNIX-based and Linux-based computers by using the same interface and tools that you use to manage your Windows-based computers.

These updated MPs are also referenced to as Cumulative Update #3 (CU#3).

Provance IT Asset Management Pack Beta Release Now Available!

The Provance IT Asset Management Pack is a Process Management Pack that runs within the forthcoming Microsoft System Center Service Manager 2010 to provide Software and IT Asset Management. The supplemental capability provided by the Provance IT Asset Management Pack allows Microsoft System Center customers to take control of IT costs, improve IT Service Management efficiency and reduce security and compliance risks. It extends Microsoft System Center Service Manager with additional functionality to manage the financial, contractual and organizational information necessary to support Software Asset Management, License Compliance, IT Asset Life Cycle Management, and more cost-effective and efficient IT Service Management.

Updated Active Directory Management Pack (version 6.0.7050.0)

The Active Directory team has just released an updated version of the Operations Management Pack for Active Directory (version 6.0.7050.0).  This latest update includes:

  • Support for Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • Additional support for:
    • Active Directory Web Services (ADWS) for Windows Server 2008 R2;
    • Active Directory Management Gateway Service for Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, and Windows Server 2008.
  • Updates to existing functionality around:
    • Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 migration;
    • Monitoring of operations master roles (also known as flexible single master operations (FSMO) roles);
    • Enhanced performance monitors, and log size and database size monitors.
  • A revamped deployment and usage guide.

Users of Operations Manager 2007 R2 can download this directly from the online MP service via the integrated MP download wizard.  Alternatively the MP can be downloaded from here or via the Operations Manager MP Catalog.

Gartner Speaks Out on System Center Operations Manager 2007

Sorry I haven’t been very active with blogging in the past couple of weeks but I’ve been busy getting ready for my System Center presentation the Microsoft Launch event being held tomorrow at the Tripod, Harcourt Street, in Dublin. There’s three 2-hour sessions beginning at 12PM and then repeating at 3PM and 6PM.
